Support Policy

Due to the overwhelming number of printers that are or have been at one time available on the market, it is not possible for Eclipse to certify or provide technical support for every possible printer configuration. For the benefit of customers that wish to have the most reliable printing and support experience, we have provided a list of printers below that our customers have found to be compatible for Eclipse printing. We have also provided general requirements for customers who are searching for a printer for use with Eclipse, which you can use when researching new printers.

Printer requirements are more stringent for customers using the “Legacy” Printing process, where Print Jobs are drafted in Eclipse and sent directly to each printer in their native print language (i.e. PCL). If a customer using “legacy” forms contacts support with questions regarding a printer that has not previously been reported as compatible with Eclipse, we may request that you replicate the issue on a printer known to be compatible with Eclipse, or recommend that you contact the manufacturer for technical support.

The newer Eclipse Forms uses Formscape software and can print to nearly any Windows-compatible LASER Printer.
Forms does NOT function with Dot Matrix Printers.
Zebra Label Printers are NOT installed on the Eclipse Forms Server.
Zebra Label Printers are configured as Linux Remote Print Queues on the Linux Server – or AIX Server, if you have one.

Laser Printer Requirements (Legacy)

  • Full support for the HP LaserJet PCL5 or higher Printer Language.
  • Internal Network (TCP/IP) Print Server (Network Interface Device)
  • Full support for the LPD (Line Printer Daemon) Protocol (AIX.)
  • Printer Administration via Telnet (To View/Modify Printers Network Settings.)
  • Printer Administration via Printer’s HTTP Web Interface (To View/Modify Printer Settings.)

Laser Printer Requirements (Eclipse Forms/Formscape)

  • Any Laser Printer compatible with whatever Windows Server Forms is installed on

A Note on Check Printing (Legacy only)

  • Only HP LaserJets can be recommended for Check Printing
  • Check Printing from Legacy Eclipse Printing involves Tray Selection Hard-Coded in the Eclipse Check Printing Program, pointing to and pulling from specific Paper Trays.
  • Coding in the Eclipse Check Printing Program is specifically oriented towards HP LaserJet Printers with respect to Paper Tray selection, Alignment, Font Size and Type, etc.
  • HP Printers used for Check Printing must have two ‘Pull-Out’ Paper Trays.
  • HP Printers used for Check Printing must have INTERNAL Print Servers.
  • The ‘Bypass’ or ‘Manual Feed Tray’ is NOT utilized for Check Printing

Dot Matrix Printer Requirements (Legacy ONLY)

  • Internal/external network (TCP/IP) Print Server.
  • Internal Print Servers are preferred over External Print Servers.
  • Full support for the LPD (Line Printer Daemon) Protocol (AIX)
  • Print Server Network Administration via Telnet.

Label Printer Requirements (Legacy and Formscape)

  • Zebra Label Printers must be 200 D.P.I.-203 D.P.I. (Dots Per Inch)
  • Zebra Label Printers must have Zebra ZPL/ZPLII (Most Zebra Label Printers have this.)
  • Intermec Label Printers using IPL (Intermec Printer Language.) Support is limited to existing customers already utilizing Intermec Printers for Label Printing from Eclipse. All new customers must use Zebra Printers, and no custom programming changes will be made to existing Intermec Labels.
  • Internal or External Network (TCP/IP) Print Server.
  • Internal Print Servers are preferred over External Print Servers.
  • Full support for the LPD (Line Printer Daemon) Protocol (AIX Servers.)
  • Print Server Network Administration via Telnet

FAQ

HOW DO I PRINT A CONFIGURATION PAGE FROM HP LASERJET PRINTERS?

Please refer to this page.

Where should I purchase Printers?

If you are purchasing a printer that is not on the customer-provided list above, please make sure to purchase it from a vendor with a liberal return policy, so that you can return the printer if it turns out to be incompatible with Eclipse. We have heard good feedback about vendors such as Amazon and Staples for this reason.
